Workshop scope
In the tradition of the EULAG Users' Workshops we focus on advancements in nonoscillatory forward-in-time (NFT) methods responsible for the success of EULAG in two decades of research across a range of geo- and astrophysical applications.
These methods gained signifficant attention in the area of numerical weather prediction, with notable examples including the COSMO-EULAG dynamical core for regional forecasting and the Finite-Volume Module (IFS-FVM) dynamical core for global medium-range forecasting. This development has been accompanied with a number of research projects focused on efficient integration of NFT methods on modern supercomputing architectures, including the EU-funded "Energy-efficient Scalable Algorithms for Weather Prediction at Exascale" (ESCAPE) coordinated by ECMWF and "Numerical weather prediction for sustainable Europe" (PROPOZE) coordinated by IMGW.
The workshop aims to bring together researchers working with forward-in-time methods, to exchange information on EULAG-based research projects and to discuss recent developments on numerical and computational advancements with EULAG, COSMO-EULAG and IFS-FVM. Contributions from outside the EULAG community are equally welcome.
Workshop topics
Dynamical cores for research and weather applications based on forward-in-time numerics
New numerical approaches, e.g. for advective transport and implicit solvers
Computational approaches for efficient integration on modern supercomputers
Energy efficient computations, scalability and modern software engineering of NFT codes
Research applications, including but not limited to: cloud/precipitation physics, stratified flows, urban/porous/canopy flows, solar physics/MHD, weather and climate
Contributions
We aim at a number of 30 min or 45 min oral contributions covering key research areas, accompanied by the Flash Poster Presentations before the Poster Session. Please send a short abstract until March, 9th, 2018, along with preference for oral (30 min or 45 min) or poster. Confirmation of acceptance will be sent within a week after this date.

Accommodation:
There are numerous options for accommodation in downtown Warsaw. The closest large hotel within walking distance of conference venue is Ibis Warszawa Reduta.
Travel:
Warsaw can be conveniently reached by plane or train. Main airport in Warsaw is the Chopin airport, within 25 min bus travel (5 km distance) to the workshop venue, served by major European and international carries, as well as WizzAir and Norwegian. Warsaw-Modlin airport is a large hub for Ryanair; the travel time to the conference venue by bus or train is about 75 min. Daily long-distance trains serve Berlin, Vienna, Budapest and Prague.
Other information:
The day following the workshop, May 31st, 2018 is the state holiday and major religious Catholic holiday of Corpus Christi.
