2010 EULAG Model Users' Workshop
13-16 September, 2010. Poland

Primary topic:
Modeling Atmospheric Circulations with Sound-proof Equations

Official Workshop Flyer in PDF format
Second Announcement in PDF format

Following the successful 1st International EULAG Workshop held in Bad Tölz, Germany, in 2008, we are pleased to announce the second international workshop which will take place in Poland. The workshop is organized and sponsored by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) with the organizational support of the University of Warsaw.

The recent years brought a significant development of the EULAG code aimed at diverse research applications. Concomitantly, new ideas have emerged in the atmospheric community on the theoretical and numerical formulation of sound-proof equations. The primary topic of the workshop will focus on the review of the current status of inelastic models and their applications. On this topic, we invite contributions from the larger geophysical, computational fluid dynamics community on all aspects of inelastic atmospheric and oceanographic modeling.

The meeting will bring together EULAG users and developers of related numerical methods. The secondary theme looks at the latest new developments and applications relevant to EULAG. We invite presentations showing diverse research applications of EULAG, with the aim of exchanging experiences and promoting collaborations between EULAG users. In addition to scientific sessions the meeting will also feature a session discussing an updated master code and prospective future standards for EULAG, and tutorials concerning the basic and new features of the numerical code.

The editors of Acta Geophysica, an SCI-source Springer?s journal on geophysical problems, plan a special issue devoted exclusively to the workshop.

Call for abstracts:
One page abstracts on topics related to either EULAG or the general topic of "Modeling Atmospheric Circulations with Sound-proof Equations" are invited.

Please submit abstracts by e-mail to (michal.ziemianski@imgw.pl).
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, 19th of March 2010.
Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed by the 26th of March 2010.

Registration:
There are no registration fees

Location:
Sopot is located on the outskirts of the Hanseatic city of Gdansk. Sopot is a sea resort on the Baltic sea, surrounded by forest, full of historical architecture and proud of the longest wooden pier in Europe( www.sopot.net, www.gdansk-life.com, www.sopot.pl). We will be meeting in the modern lecture hall of the Institute of Oceanology of Polish Academy of Sciences (address: Sopot, Powstancow Warszawy 55, www.iopan.gda.pl), located just meters from the sandy beach

Transport information:
Fly to Gdansk "Lech Walesa" international airport (GDN,www.airport.gdansk.pl), then you may take a taxi directly to Sopot (City Plus Neptun Taxi has a good reputation, approximate cost is 90,- zloty on Sundays, 4 zloty is approximately 1 euro).

Alternatively, there is a public bus (number 110) to t he Gdansk-Wrzeszcz train station (Wrzeszcz PKP), from which you need to take the urban train (SKM) to Sopot railway station. It takes 26 minutes to ge t by bus from the airport to Wrzeszcz PKP, the final bus stop. Buses ride on Sundays about every 40 minutes (the time table:, Sunday is "niedziela" in Polish, and working day is "dzien powszedni"). At Wrzeszcz PKP you need to take the SKM train in the direction to Gdynia and get off at Sopot Glowny (Sopot main station) which takes about 14 minutes, the trains ride on Sundays every 15 minutes (the time table for September is not available on the internet yet, we will provide this information later). From the station you can either walk or take a taxi. The price of a bus and train ticket is around 3 zloty. There is also a bus (number 210) from the airport to the Gdansk main railway station, from which you can take the SKM train to Sopot, but the journey will take about 30 minutes longer.

Alternatively, you may fly to Warsaw and take a train from Warsaw main station (Warszawa Centralna) directly to Sopot Glowny

Accommodation:
We have pre-booked rooms in:
Haffner hotel, very close to the workshop venue, and in the smaller
Villa Sedan hotel, located less than 10 minutes walk from the workshop venue.

The room rates per night are 330 zloty for a single room in Haffner and between 260 and 360 zloty in Villa Sedan, depending on the room. Internet access is included. To book, use the reservation form of the Haffner Hotel, attached to this message, or follow the Villa Sedan web page and ask for the EULAG workshop special rates. Limited number of rooms is available, so we urge the participants to book early. The deadline for booking the reserved rooms is 30 of April, after which time the rooms will be released to the general public.

Alternative accommodations can be found at www.sopot.pl. In close proximity to the venue there are:

Sofitel Grand
Sheraton Sopot
Chinese Hotel
Bayjonn Hotel
Between 1 - 2 kilometers, there are not very expensive Hotel Europa Hotel Europa
and inexpensive Zatoka.

Please, note that September is high season in Sopot, therefore we recommend early booking.

Deadlines and key dates:
19 March 2010: abstract submission
30 April 2010: release of reserved hotel rooms
13 to 16 September 2010: workshop

We cordially invite everyone interested to participate in the workshop. We would appreciate if you could pass this invitation on to other colleagues especially those who might be interested in learning more about EULAG or who have interest in reviewing applicability of inelastic models. E-mails indicating that you consider participating in the workshop are most welcome and would help us with the organization.
