EULAG Model Users' Workshop Home Page
Bad Tölz, Germany 6-10 October 2008

From our first announcement of the EULAG Model Users' Workshop in Southern Germany in fall 2008 we got quite a number of responses. Thanks a lot! Due to the positive character of all the answers we feel encouraged to step forward with the organisation of this workshop.

The main idea of this workshop is to provide a forum to exchange information and ideas among EULAG users. For users and other colleagues interested to deepen their knowledge of EULAG, we offer five tutorials covering essential physical, mathematical and numerical aspects of EULAG. As part of the priority program of German Science Foundation (DFG) "MetStröm" we plan a session about aspects of multi-scale numerical simulations of geophysical flows open for all interested scientists working in this area of research.

In 2006 and 2007, we held small informal gatherings at NCAR among the primary developers of EULAG. These true working events turned out to be fruitful for the further development of the numerical code. Therefore, the idea emerged to organise a larger meeting providing an inspiring venue for exchanging information and ideas among all EULAG users. It appears that there are already more than ten research groups all over the world using EULAG for studies in diverse areas of fluid dynamics. Their EULAG clones tend to diverge rapidly due to customized developments. Therefore, one of the primary purposes of the 1st Workshop of EULAG Users is to outline the current status of the various developments, to inform all users what is available, and thus to prevent unnecessary duplication of effort. We anticipate this exchange will lead to an updated master code.

We envision this workshop as a practical event, rather than a formal conference. We plan on 20 minutes presentations summarizing the scope of work, achievements and difficulties. The latter one is particularly important as some of such could have been solved already by others.

Venue location

The workshop will take place in the room Brauneck
inside the Posthotel Kolberbräu in Bad Tölz, Germany:

Posthotel Kolberbräu

Fax: ++49 (0)8041/7688-200
Email: info@kolberbraeu.de
WEB: www.kolberbraeu.de

The hotel is located directly downtown Bad Tölz in the historical
market street (traffic-free zone) with view on the Alps.

During the meeting, we serve soft drinks and snacks. On Wednesday, a three-course
dinner will be served. There is no additional charge for participants as we expect
the majority of us will stay in the hotel during the time of the meeting.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available in the hotel.

We blocked 25 rooms till 30 May 2008 for a rate of 59 (approx. $ 75 )
per night inclusive breakfast. Most of the rooms are arranged in the typical
Bavarian style and equipped with bathroom, TV, telephone and analogue internet
access. Internet High-Speed WAL is available in the meeting room.

We kindly remind you to book a hotel room at our meeting place till May 30 2008:

How to get to Bad Tölz?

We recommend to fly to Munich International Airport or to take a train to Munich Main Station.
From both places there is easy public transportation to Bad Tölz

Connection to Munich City by S-Bahn:

The and go frequently between the airport and Munich City center. On both lines,
the journey between the airport and Munich Main Station takes just 40 minutes.
For schedule information contact:

http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/home/passengeraeinformation

Exit the trains at Donnersberger Brücke (2 stops before or after Munich Main Station).
From there, take the Bayrische Oberlandbahn directly to Bad Tölz (approximately 50 minutes ride).

http://www.bayerische-oberlandbahn.de

We recommend using a taxi for the short (5 min) ride to the hotel.

Car rental

If you plan to rent a car at Munich Airport, ask at the desk for directions to the Bad Tölz.
The Posthotel Kolberbräu has it own parking spot behind the building.

Shuttle services

Alternatively, the hotel offers a shuttle service from Munich Airport to Bad Tölz.
As the costs amount to about 140$, this service makes sense for a group of 4 to 5 people.
